That window seems like the only hope I could access the computer which pop up everytime I reboot. After Windows has rebooted, return to the taskbar settings' window. If there are bad areas on the disk, the HDD should reallocate stuff on the fly, but it might not if it's failing. But, provided the computer has otherwise booted fully so you can see at least the normal desktop icons and background wallpaper, then, by pressing Ctrl+Esc, or the Windows key, whichever works
I did every basic thing to do like check its properties, the folder options if it has any sketchy settings on but nothing. Then hit "Action" in the top toolbar... What I had done was plugging the power cord into an external USB HD while Win7 was up and running.

XP Professional SP1 It will boot up to allow me to select the user account. now it finish and reboot you computer. Before adding stuff to a registry (as opposed to deleting stuff), you need a genuine backup of the present registry, as reassurance. The "My Pictures" folder does keep its icon but my "Downloads" folder still changes icon depending on what's in it.

This would allow you to browse normally to any drive, directory or application, anywhere on the computer. You will appear you desktop icons back. Did you ever solve this problem?
After a reset of the WHS system (and it had apparently hung after installing some Microsoft updates) everything was humming along again. Make sure these 2 entries are either "Not configured" or "Disabled": - Hide these specified drives in My Computer - Prevent access to drives from My Computer That MIGHT do it… To start Error-checking, open (My) Computer > right-click on the C: drive's icon > Properties > Tools tab > at 'Error-checking', click 'Check Now' > at the window which appears, if Should you choose to 'reformat', that's something that you'll have to do while re-installing Windows.
