End Program "EXPLORER.EXE"

Everytime he goes to shut down the computer, explorer hangs, and gives him the option to wait, or click end now. (I think you all know what I'm talking about) I click ok and restart the system.. Is there a way to resolve this situation? Not sure how to tell what are programs (MS and other) compared to system files. his comment is here
