You need to download and install a program like VLC Media Player, an open-source, free player that will play just about anything you ever come across. Its not playing my dvds, and I don't know what dvd playback software to use. The Metro applications are sandboxed for better security. You need a third-party program called Blu-ray player software. Therefore, I'm pretty much committed to getting every last drop of value out of Windows 7 that I can.
